Procurement Tools

PIU Tools, or PIU 'Apps', are practical frameworks or templates, which support problem solving around shared challenges and priorities based on members' own contexts.

Developed specifically to solve cross-sector or specialised procurement challenges, these tools are developed based on member needs, proven methodologies and case-based successes from across the procurement community.

These Apps are tested, developed and brought to market by the PIU and offered via our membership model or via separate user licences.

The first of these tools, developed over 30 years of academic research and operational testing and deployment, is Procurement GPS.

Procurement GPS

Procurement GPS is a web-enabled progression tool, or road map, for procurement development based entirely around an organisation's own context. At its core, GPS builds detailed improvement plans to guide the alignment of procurement strategy with wider business objectives.

Underpinned by a proven methodology, GPS does this, firstly, through a self-assessment of the function's current capabilities across seventeen modules. The tool then links procurement's maturity to the stated goals of the wider business, leading to a clear development plan based on business priorities, capability gaps and the interdependencies underpinning this.

The GPS tool provides Procurement leaders with a tool that:

  • Is based upon an organisation's own context and priorities;
  • Was developed in the corporate world to solve a real business problem;
  • Gives the leadership team visibility of procurement's potential;
  • Is a web-enabled roadmap that guides continuous improvement;
  • Puts the procurement team in control;
  • Cascades wider business priorities into procurement strategies and plans.
